Gwendall Lasserre, who is originally from the Basque country of southwest France, has been successfully making chocolates in the best chocolatier tradition for many years now. He made his first chocolates when he was 14 years old.
Gwen and his team produce the finest selection of artisan handmade chocolates and confectionery that will satisfy even the most discerning chocolate lover. Each of the superb chocolates and the range of patisserie ready for customers to buy is individually made from the finest natural ingredients without any additives or preservatives.
Gwen’s Chocolates supplies a number of other retailers with chocolates and confectionery including Fallon and Byrne’s Food Hall in Dublin. Gwen and his team have proved themselves more than equal to meeting the challenge of this prestigious D2 emporium’s product philosophy:
'We have sourced wonderful artisan products from across the country and showcase seasonal local produce throughout the year from the freshest Wicklow carrots to the finest West Cork chocolates. Again, we want to rely on people we know and trust to make food with integrity - so many supermarket products have been utterly corrupted over the years in an endeavour to achieve fatter margins. That's where we can set ourselves apart - setting the highest of standards for meat, fish and vegetables as well as all products carried in our shop.'

Our brief was to build a web site that would showcase:
 |
Gwen’s superb range of over 40 varieties of individual, hand-crafted chocolates with their distinctly individual flavours reflect the changing seasons in their ingredients, all made using 100% pure cocoa butter without any additives or preservatives.
The high quality and distinctly individual range of patisserie that Gwen and his team produce including their very own decadent wedding gateaux.
The shop, an experience in itself, redolent with the aroma of the finest quality cocoa and other ingredients essential to the chocolatier's art that come drifting through from the work rooms at the back of the shop, bright with the colours of wrappings and boxes, alive with the ranks and rows of the chocolates themselves in shades of white, dark and milk. All of your senses are assailed, one after the other… • The scent of alluring chocolate aromas • The sight of rows and trays of delicious chocolates and patisserie • The sound of the soft, French tones of Gwen and his team • The ultimate touch and melting taste of pure pleasure

“…it takes a special kind of chocolate-maker to make chocolate that is so swooningly good. Gwen Lasserre is that man…..the Irish food scene would be a much sadder place without Gwen’s delicious creations. He hand-makes over forty individual chocolates, including ganaches, truffles and pralines, voluptuously gorgeous in every possible way plus the most extravagant moulds, figurines, theatrical masks and chocolate bouquets, desserts and cakes which make stunning gifts.”

Those of you have read 'Chocolat' by Joanne Harris, or seen the film starring Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp, may have wondered what it might be like to enter a Chocolaterie Artisanale like that of Vianne Rocher.
Gwen’s customers tell us that it is only necessary to walk into his shop to find out - we believe that visiting Gwen’s web site will make you want to! |
